Connecting to the Future of Music: understanding of sound/vibration/music and it's use in propelling consciousness and healing from a evolving electronic music perspective

Mark Deutsch will give a talk on vibration and its affect on consciousness; sound and what it shows us about building systems of profound internal coherence that produce great abundance; and more specifically, he'll address music of the future and how computers and electronic music can facilitate a kind of vibrational construct that was virtually impossible to manifest on this physical plane in the past, though has always been aspired to by the great artists, healers and philosophers, both theoretically and spiritually throughout history.  Mark will explain how the underlying vibrational structure of music was altered and made synthetic and linear, for certain practical though short sighted goals, in the 1700s during “The Enlightenment.”  This is similar to how our calendars and sense of time were also made synthetic during the 1500s, leaving us unaware, amnesiac and out-of-accord with the natural flow of the sacred, multi-fractal aspects of our world.

Mark's work with vibration and consciousness is the vertical axis to the horizontal time axis and aspect of the Mayan calendar.  He will explain his vision that in at least the near future (the next 100-200 years) the medium that will become the most important in the development of music that shifts consciousness will be computer technology.  He will explain how the process could work, what needs to happen to make it work, and why it is important as a tool for expanding consciousness. 

Mark is the inventor of the Bazantar, an acoustic instrument built specifically to produce pure vibrational relationships.  He will perform and use it to demonstrate the underlying code found in all pure tones.  It will come as a surprise to some people who know Mark, his sensibilities and love for the organic, that he sees the future of music being manifested via an electronic medium.  So, come to his talk and find out why.

Surfing the Apocalypse: Facing Armageddon & the Fall of Empire with Optimism

Environmental degradation, global domination by the military industrial complex, the cultural and moral vacuum of corporate America, mass apathy and hypnosis via mass media, these are the issues we face looking to the near future.  Have we reached the point of no return?  Many people are saying so.  What can we do about it?  This talk will feature a brief history and examination of our current situation, arm its audience with a few key points to disseminate, and explore the possibilities of direct action.

Chris Sia has been fighting Empire for almost two decades.  He first marched against U.S. intervention in Central America while still in high school.  His odyssey of personal evolution and radical awareness activism led him to a nine-year stint in federal prison for LSD trafficking.  He was released from federal prison in 1999 and came home to the San Francisco Bay Area under supervised release and finally completed his term in 2005.  While incarcerated, he published political poetry in several literary journals.  After his release he studied at the New College, focusing on arts and social change with emphasis on performance art.  Since then, Chris has written, directed and produced heavy-hitting dance theater, exploring the nexus of arts and activism and the responsibility to utilize the performance stage as a platform to inspire audiences with powerful aesthetics, raise awareness, and motivate people to take action.  Currently he is working on a solo multimedia show as well as producing and playing music.  He is also co-founder of the Armageddon Prevention Team, a loosely-banded group of artists and activists dedicated to creating resistance art, both in venues and in public space.  APT will be screening their new film, "The Litany," at Raindance.

Unconditional Love, the Most Powerful Force for Peace

At age 13, sitting alone on the sandy bank of a desert creek, Patrick Harvard divided a small orange tablet into pieces and dropped a quarter of the tablet into his mouth.  It was 1968, a vintage year for the legendary Orange Sunshine.  What followed was Patrick's first spiritual awakening and the beginning of a lifelong pursuit of Truth.  Since that time, Patrick has devoted himself fully to understanding and ending suffering and conflict.  After a lifetime of gradual spiritual awakenings, some entheogenic and others not, during a 2004 journey, Patrick was overcome with an all-consuming wave of gratitude for his life and for every experience he had ever had.  The gratitude he experienced washed away all sense of past suffering, anger, blame, guilt, loss and grief. It left Patrick in an enduring state of unconditional love and acceptance for his life and for everyone in it.  A series of revelations and clarifications followed that resulted in the inner and outer peace and happiness he had long been seeking.   In his workshop, Patrick will explain the process by which suffering and conflict are extinguished.  He will help participants to identify and deconstruct the illusions that lead to suffering.  Patrick will expose and unravel the relationship myths that, until recognized as such, lead us inevitably into interpersonal conflict.  He will describe how, until we bring peace and truth to our immediate lives, with family, friends, coworkers and ourselves, war and injustice will continue to prevail in the world of politics and nations.

Patrick Harvard studied the Humanities at Yale College, and U.C.Santa Cruz and began practicing Zen Buddhism with Roshis Robert Aitken and Taizan Maezumi. Later, he became involved in the peace movement and entered into the world of dance and music where he became a DJ in the underground dance scene.  In 1998, Patrick founded the Southern California Dance Collective http://scdc.tribe.net/ and produced community oriented dance events and camp outs that included dance classes and transformational workshops.  Over the years, Patrick has lead seminars in interpersonal communications, Tantra and gender reconciliation. In the past, he has taught at Dance New England, NCDC and at Harbin Hot Springs.  Recently Patrick resigned from his corporate job of nine years, gave away most of his personal possessions and hit the road to teach the secrets of inner peace and unconditional love.

We choose our most current or top priority realm and get to have a break out session with the other people who share this passion and sphere of works.

After our pod meetings we will get to reconvene in the big circle and be enriched by a brief summary of the results of each pods networking experience and then discuss tools and follow up options to continue the crucial project of staying in connection and solidarity in our linked projects.

Audette Sophia is a poet/singer, multi-modal performing artist and facilitator of creative exploration and expression. She has been performing for over 10 years, weaving dance, acrobatics, stilt-walking, music, poetry, fire, and interactive ritual theater. She has a B.A. in Integrative Arts, and both her teaching and performance work extend from her commitment to creativity as an evolutionary catalyst.
